New Format Offers Contextual Insights
Instead of the traditional format that reads something like “Tomorrow in Los Angeles: Mostly cloudy”, the updated notifications use phrases such as “Lower than normal temps” or “Warming over next 3 days”. These alerts also feature a large, eye-catching thermometer icon instead of the standard weather condition symbols.
Each notification includes a clickable option to “See full forecast,” which redirects users to a Google Search results page rather than the Pixel Weather app. This shift is believed to enhance the immediacy and accessibility of relevant forecast details.
A More Conversational and Useful Approach
The new notifications appear to be part of a limited A/B test on Google app version 16.14, and not all users are seeing the change yet. Those who have received the update appreciate the practicality and clarity of the new format, which is designed to be more informative at a glance.
Currently Limited to Pixel Devices
The update has been observed primarily on Google Pixel smartphones, with the older notification format still active on other Android models. It is unclear if or when this new style will roll out more broadly across the Android ecosystem.
