UDAIPUR, March 7 (Daily Udaipur): Former Indian field hockey player Sujit Kumar, who represented India in the 1988 Summer Olympics and was a member of the bronze medal-winning Indian team at the 1986 Asian Games, was accorded a warm welcome at Maharana Mewar Public School, The City Palace, Udaipur, during his visit to the city.

The occasion turned into a proud and memorable moment for the school community as the celebrated sportsperson interacted with students and shared insights about the finer aspects of the game.
The programme began in the school premises where NCC cadets welcomed the guests with discipline and dignity. This was followed by a warm reception by the teachers amid loud applause. Sujit Kumar was accompanied by his wife and Kuldeep Singh Jhala, Secretary of the Udaipur Hockey Association. The school family extended a cordial welcome to them.
On the occasion, the school’s Honorary Director Satish Kumar Sharma presented a bouquet to the guests as a mark of respect.
In his inspiring address, Sujit Kumar shared experiences from his life and emphasised the important role teachers play in shaping the future of students. He said teachers contribute as significantly as parents in a child’s life. While parents give life to children, teachers guide them with the right direction and values.
He also highlighted that modern education is no longer limited to books but focuses on the overall development of students through sports, discipline and life values. Encouraging students, he said that maintaining a balance between education, sports and co-curricular activities can help them achieve great success in life.
On this occasion, Udaipur Hockey Association Secretary Kuldeep Singh Jhala expressed gratitude for the patronage and encouragement extended by Shrimati Nivritti Kumari Mewar. He said her guidance has provided new direction and encouragement to sports activities. He also appreciated the school’s efforts to connect students with sports and promote discipline, team spirit and physical fitness.
