Surya Kumar Yadav Celebrates T20 World Cup Victory, Praises Teams Potential

Ahmedabad, March 9: India has claimed the T20 World Cup 2026 title under the leadership of Surya Kumar Yadav. Following this victory, Yadav expressed his confidence in the capabilities of his players. He specifically praised Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah for their outstanding performances.

In the final match held at Narendra Modi Stadium, India scored 255 runs for the loss of five wickets, thanks to remarkable innings from Sanju Samson (89), Abhishek Sharma (52), and Ishan Kishan (54). In response, New Zealand was bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs, giving India a resounding 96-run victory.

After becoming the third captain to lead India to a T20 World Cup title, Yadav remarked, “It has been a long journey. It all started after the T20 World Cup 2024. Jay Shah and Rohit Sharma trusted me and gave me the opportunity to lead the team. From there, this journey began, and winning the trophy here is fantastic. We have been playing good cricket over the last two years, and we want to continue those good habits that we established during the 2024 World Cup. The players have embraced it very well.”

Regarding maintaining trust in his players, Captain Surya emphasized, “It is crucial to understand what players are capable of. I knew they had the potential to win matches. They delivered at the right moments. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are exceptional players, and we knew they would do something special, which they did in the final.”

In the championship match, Jasprit Bumrah excelled with the ball, taking four wickets for just 15 runs in four overs. Throughout the tournament, Bumrah played eight matches, securing 14 wickets at an average of 12.43. Praising Bumrah, Surya stated, “Jasprit Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler. I can call him a national treasure. He knows exactly what to do and is the best at his job.”
