Jaipur, April 7: The political atmosphere has intensified following a raid by Assam police at the home of Congress leader Pawan Khera, linked to a controversial passport issue involving the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Senior Congress leaders in Rajasthan have rallied in support of Khera, launching sharp attacks against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to social media to express that the BJP is panicking due to fears of losing the upcoming elections in Assam. He accused the BJP of targeting the opposition by resorting to police and government agencies instead of adhering to democratic values. Gehlot condemned the police action as a “cowardly act,” asserting that Congress will not be intimidated by such pressures.
State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra also accused the BJP of misusing institutions. He noted that Khera had recently raised issues concerning the Assam Chief Minister and his family during a press conference, which he believes prompted the police action. Dotasra described this as an attempt to silence the opposition, emphasizing that every Congress worker stands firm.
Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Julie criticized the raid as well, stating that the BJP is now attempting to suppress the opposition through police and agencies. He labeled this as “evidence of dictatorship,” asserting that instead of engaging in dialogue, the BJP resorts to intimidation tactics.
Congress leaders unitedly stated that the people of Assam are observing these developments and will respond in due course. This incident has reignited political accusations, signaling a heated atmosphere as elections approach.
