Udaipur, April 10: District Collector Mr. Gaurav Agarwal conducted an inspection of the Amarkh Mahadev Leopard Conservation Reserve on Thursday. He was accompanied by Deputy Forest Conservator (North) Mr. Ajay Chittoda, Assistant Forest Conservator Mr. Rajendra Singh, and other officials from the Forest Department.
Chittoda informed the Collector that the conservation reserve spans approximately 74 square kilometers. A budget of 15 crore rupees has been approved under the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) for its development. This funding will support essential projects such as patrolling tracks, boundary walls, watchtowers, and soil and water conservation initiatives.
Conservation efforts are currently underway in the Udaipur East Range at the Uday Sagar Naka and the Bhinder Range. During the inspection, the Collector reviewed the patrolling tracks constructed in the Santu and Flat Forest Blocks. Udaipur Range Officer Mr. Ravindra Singh and Forest Guard Mrs. Reena Devrda from Uday Sagar Naka were also present.
The area is home to healthy populations of trees such as Sal, Kadaya, and Godhal. Grasslands are being developed, with plans to introduce herbivorous wildlife in the future, ensuring a sustainable food source for predator species. This region is evolving into a crucial habitat for leopards, hyenas, bears, porcupines, and various bird species.
