Bikaner, June 12: The remarks made by Rajasthan’s Health Minister, Gajendra Singh Khivsar, regarding the kidney issues faced by women after cesarean deliveries at PBM Hospital have sparked significant controversy. During a visit to the hospital on Thursday, the minister’s comments in response to journalists’ questions have ignited a political debate.
When asked about the deteriorating health of several women, most of whom experienced complications two to three hours post-delivery, the minister stated that these patients had arrived at the hospital in critical condition. He then instructed Dr. Surendra Verma to inform the journalists about the actual status of the patients. In a controversial statement, he remarked, “You tell me, did they come walking and dancing or were they already ill?”
In defense of the medical staff, the minister emphasized that hospitals successfully treat a large number of patients daily, but only a few adverse cases receive widespread attention. He noted that while thousands of patients are treated successfully, serious cases are often used to question the entire healthcare system.
Meanwhile, upon the minister’s arrival at PBM Hospital, Congress workers protested outside the premises, chanting slogans against the government. The demonstrators attempted to enter the hospital grounds, leading to a confrontation with the police. Law enforcement used force to disperse the protesters, resulting in a scuffle. The Congress party expressed its dissatisfaction with the police’s actions.
It is important to note that several cases of kidney complications among new mothers at PBM Hospital have recently come to light, with some being admitted to the ICU in critical condition. The state government has ordered an investigation into the matter, and a team of expert doctors is currently examining the situation. Clarity on the actual causes of the illness and potential accountability will emerge after the report is released.
