Jaipur, June 15: Political rhetoric is intensifying in the state regarding the upcoming panchayat and municipal elections. The opposition is accusing the state government of delaying the elections. Amid this backdrop, a statement by Arun Chaturvedi, the Chairman of the State Finance Commission, has sparked a new controversy. In response, former MLA Sanyam Lodha has issued a warning of contempt action.
Chaturvedi stated during a media interaction in Bhilwara on Saturday that the state government will conduct elections between October and December to fulfill the “One State, One Election” pledge. His remarks have ignited discussions in political circles.
Reacting to this, former MLA Sanyam Lodha emphasized that a person in a constitutional position must respect court orders. He pointed out that the Rajasthan High Court has already directed the state government and the State Election Commission to conduct panchayat and municipal elections by July 31. Thus, Chaturvedi’s statement appears to encourage the government to disregard the court’s orders.
Lodha asserted that this statement falls under judicial interference and could be viewed as contempt. He urged Chaturvedi to retract his statement, stressing the need to publicly respect and adhere to court orders.
He added that while comments on the state’s economic situation or financial matters might be understandable, Chaturvedi’s remarks regarding the election schedule obstruct the constitutional and legal rights of millions of citizens. Such behavior is deemed inappropriate for anyone in a constitutional role.
Lodha warned that if Arun Chaturvedi does not withdraw his statement within 15 days, he will face contempt proceedings in court. This statement has stirred a new controversy in the state’s political landscape regarding the panchayat and municipal elections.
