Jaipur, June 24: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has made significant remarks regarding Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma amidst ongoing discussions about a potential cabinet expansion in Rajasthan. Gehlot emphasized that any changes in the cabinet are solely the prerogative of the Chief Minister and party leadership. He expressed his personal desire for Bhajanlal Sharma to continue in his role.
Gehlot noted that there have been continuous speculations in the media about a change in leadership. He stated that he wishes for Bhajanlal Sharma to remain in office, describing him as a good man who is respectful and courteous in his interactions. Such a dignified individual is well-suited for the position of Chief Minister.
In a lighter vein, Gehlot remarked that Bhajanlal Sharma is also suitable for the opposition. This statement is considered significant in the context of the current political discussions and rumors surrounding a possible cabinet reshuffle.
On another note, Gehlot responded to a statement made by BJP state president Madan Rathore. He clarified that his comments about “selling horses, donkeys, buffaloes, and goats” were directed at leaders who sell their loyalty for money, not at elected representatives.
Gehlot asserted that it is not wrong to criticize those legislators and MPs who switch allegiances for millions. He highlighted that the public entrusts their votes to representatives, and if they betray that trust for financial gain, it constitutes a betrayal of democracy.
He expressed surprise upon reading Rathore’s statement in the morning newspapers, accusing him of making such remarks to please senior leaders and gain political advantage.
Gehlot pointed out that incidents of party-switching among representatives in Maharashtra and other states are well-documented. He stated that such leaders cannot be praised, as those who sell their loyalty for sums like 10, 25, or 50 crores cannot be considered representatives of democratic values.
He referenced the recent party-switching of 20 out of 28 MPs and 60 out of 80 MLAs from Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, emphasizing that such behavior should not be idolized, and the public must understand these political practices.
Regarding the Yamuna water agreement, Gehlot expressed that if Rajasthan receives Yamuna water, it would be a positive development, and he welcomes it. He reiterated his earlier promise that if the water reaches Rajasthan, he would personally go to the Chief Minister’s residence to honor Bhajanlal Sharma.
Gehlot also mentioned that he had announced in Neemkathana that if Bhajanlal Sharma fulfills this public dream, he would visit his home to congratulate him. He affirmed that he remains committed to this promise.
However, he criticized the government, stating that merely holding meetings in Delhi or Chandigarh will not suffice. He stressed that the real concern is the arrival of water on the ground, not just meetings and announcements.
Recently, a crucial meeting took place in Delhi among the governments of Rajasthan, Haryana, and the central government regarding the Yamuna water project. Discussions focused on the pipeline formula to bring Yamuna water to Shekhawati and other project-related points. While the government describes this as a historic step, the opposition raises questions about the actual implementation and availability of water.
Overall, Gehlot praised Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s personal conduct while also targeting the government regarding party-switching, Rathore’s statements, and the Yamuna water agreement. His remarks have sparked new discussions in the state’s political landscape.
