Jaipur, August 12: Internal conflicts within the Congress party are surfacing as the urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections approach in Rajasthan. Leaders from Barmer and Ajmer met with state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra in Jaipur on Tuesday to voice their grievances regarding factionalism and organizational differences in their districts.
Former Barmer MLA Mewar Ram Jain and his supporters raised complaints against Harish Chaudhary, the party’s in-charge for Madhya Pradesh and MLA from Baytu. Jain’s faction accused Chaudhary of autocracy and fostering factionalism, highlighting a long-standing political rivalry between the two groups.
After the meeting with the state president, Mewar Ram Jain stated that the workers discussed the need to strengthen the Congress and eliminate internal discord. He emphasized that factionalism is rampant in Barmer and that it is crucial to unify the organization. Jain also mentioned that he informed the state president about the individual responsible for the factionalism.
He urged all members to set aside past grievances and work together to fortify the Congress.
Meanwhile, the internal dispute in Ajmer also reached the state Congress headquarters. Former district president Vijay Jain and his supporters met with Govind Singh Dotasra to address ongoing disagreements within the party in Ajmer. Allegations were directed towards the faction led by former RTDC chairman Dharmendra Rathore. Although Vijay Jain refrained from naming any leader publicly, he indicated that he would disclose the name to the state president.
Vijay Jain claimed that neglected Congress workers in Ajmer presented their concerns to the state president. They expressed dissatisfaction over being sidelined in party events. He alleged that the involvement of an outsider in Ajmer’s politics has exacerbated organizational disputes, with some local leaders prioritizing personal gains over party interests. These issues were brought to the attention of the state president.
Dotasra acknowledged the existence of some differences within the party in Barmer and Ajmer. He noted that minor organizational issues could be resolved through discussions with all concerned leaders. Dotasra mentioned that due to certain circumstances during the Lok Sabha elections, Mewar Ram Jain was not part of the Congress but later returned following a decision from the high command. He assured that discussions would be held to address organizational issues in Barmer.
Regarding Ajmer, he recognized that there are challenges within the local Congress and that dialogues would be initiated to find solutions. He asserted that the Congress remains united across Rajasthan.
As preparations for the local body and Panchayati Raj elections intensify, the complaints from Barmer and Ajmer leaders have heightened the challenge of resolving internal differences within the Congress. The distribution of tickets may intensify factionalism and claims at the local level.
It is crucial for the state leadership to bring together various factions and address worker dissatisfaction before the electoral process accelerates.
