Ashok Gehlot Raises Concerns Over Kota Medical College Incident

Kota, June 17: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot visited the new SSB block of Kota Medical College on Tuesday. He met with women affected after cesarean deliveries and their families. After assessing the health of the hospitalized women, he described the situation as extremely serious and questioned the government’s and health department’s operations.

Gehlot emphasized that this is not a typical medical incident but a specific and alarming case. He reported that some women have died following cesarean deliveries, while five others remain under treatment. He noted that the affected women’s kidneys have suffered severe damage, necessitating regular dialysis for many. Some require dialysis three times a week, others twice, and some once.

The former Chief Minister pointed out that most affected women come from economically disadvantaged families. The illness and prolonged treatment impose an additional financial burden on these families. He urged the government to take concrete steps to assist them.

Gehlot also mentioned that the forensic science lab (FSL) report for the deceased women has not yet been received. According to doctors, it may take four to six months to obtain the report. He suggested that, given the seriousness of the case, efforts should be made to expedite the report to uncover the actual causes of the incident.

He further stated that no one has been able to clearly explain why the women’s conditions deteriorated so suddenly after delivery. Doctors have also expressed uncertainty regarding the cause. Gehlot welcomed the arrival of expert teams from AIIMS and the state government to investigate the matter, but he noted that their findings and reports have not been made public.

Gehlot questioned why similar medications and treatment methods used in private hospitals have not resulted in such incidents, while a government hospital faced such a severe situation. He demanded a thorough and impartial investigation to determine where deficiencies in treatment, medications, infection control, or hospital management led to this crisis.
