Congress Invites Online Applications for Panchayat Elections in Rajasthan

Jaipur, October 5: The Congress party has initiated the candidate selection process for the Panchayati Raj elections scheduled for 2026. They are inviting online applications from leaders and party workers interested in contesting for the District Council and Panchayat Committee member positions. The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee released a QR code on social media on Sunday evening, allowing candidates to scan it and access the application form directly.

Candidates wishing to apply for the District Council and Panchayat Committee positions can scan the provided QR code.

The applications are specifically for the District Council and Panchayat Committee member positions. This is due to the electoral framework established by the State Election Commission, which mandates that elections for these positions be contested under the official symbols of political parties. In contrast, elections for village-level positions such as Panch and Sarpanch are non-partisan. Thus, the question of tickets and symbols arises only for these two positions.

Following the recent delimitation, there are 1,403 electoral constituencies in 41 District Councils and 8,245 constituencies in 457 Panchayat Committees across the state. This means Congress needs to finalize candidates for a total of 9,648 seats, just shy of the 10,245 wards in the upcoming elections.

The party first employed this online application method during the urban local body elections earlier this year. On August 18, a poster announcing the online application process was released at the state Congress office by key party figures. Within a week, over 36,000 applications were received from 309 local bodies, including approximately 1,350 from Jaipur alone. The deadline for applications was extended to August 26, with candidate selections beginning on August 27.

The data collected from these applications significantly influenced the distribution of tickets. Congress fielded candidates in about 9,300 of the 10,245 wards, including 3,348 women, representing around 36 percent. According to party statistics, 76.25 percent of the candidates were under 50 years old, and 43.59 percent were under 40.

Currently, the party has not specified an application deadline. During the local body elections, it was stated that online applications would be forwarded to the respective district Congress committees for local review before finalizing names. A professional company was also engaged for surveys during this process.

Important details for candidates: Applications are exclusively for the District Council and Panchayat Committee member positions. The form has been prepared by the Pradesh Congress Committee’s war room and can be filled out by scanning the QR code released by the party. For any technical issues, candidates can contact the war room at 7976126930.

Voting for the District Council and Panchayat Committee members will take place in four phases on October 23, October 29, November 4, and November 14. Elections for Panch and Sarpanch positions will occur on October 25, October 31, November 6, and November 16. The results for the District Council and Panchayat Committee members will be announced on November 20, while the counting for Panch and Sarpanch votes will take place on the same day at the village panchayat headquarters. The public notice for nominations for District Council members will be issued on October 8, with nominations accepted until October 13, giving parties about a week to finalize their candidates.
