New Delhi, October 8: Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi staged protests for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. As they approached Jantar Mantar, security forces halted them approximately 200 meters away. In response, both leaders sat down on the road. Unable to proceed, Priyanka Gandhi lay down on the street holding a copy of the Constitution.
During the protest, there was a scuffle between Congress workers and security personnel. Rahul and Priyanka were attempting to reach Jantar Mantar alongside other opposition MPs when they were stopped. They began their demonstration right there on the road.
Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hosted a lunch for opposition MPs at the Sagar Ratna restaurant. After the meal, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other opposition members set out for Jantar Mantar. Notably, leaders from the Samajwadi Party did not attend this gathering.
The day before, the opposition had also protested on the same issue. Over 200 MPs from the INDIA alliance marched from Parliament to the Election Commission office but were stopped en route. Following this, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi held a sit-in at the All India Radio complex for nearly eight hours.
During the previous day’s protest, both leaders were detained twice. An FIR was filed against them for allegedly forcefully entering the All India Radio premises. The following day, they resumed their protests, reiterating their demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
