March Stopped at Chomu Circle
The women activists were blocked by police barricades while attempting to march from the BJP headquarters to the Congress office. They voiced their opposition through slogans and the burning of the effigy.
Background of the Protest
This demonstration was sparked by allegations of harassment against Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. Akoijam, a former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), represents Inner Manipur in the Lok Sabha.
On October 9, following an internal committee investigation into complaints from 11 female students, JNU dismissed Akoijam from service. The directive was issued by Vice Chancellor Santishree D. Pandit. Akoijam has denied the allegations.
Earlier, BJP state president Madan Rathore had also called on former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to respond to the situation.
