Professor Ramesh Kumar Rawat Congratulates Dr. Satish Poonia in New Delhi

New Delhi, October 10: Professor Ramesh Kumar Rawat, the Registrar of Sikkim Professional University in Gangtok, visited the BJP central office in New Delhi to meet Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Satish Poonia. Rawat hails from Ashok Vihar Colony in the Chomu municipality of Jaipur district.

During the meeting, Rawat congratulated Poonia on his appointment as the in-charge of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, as well as the national in-charge of the BJP’s Scheduled Tribe (ST) front. He presented Poonia with a Panchmukhi Rudraksh necklace from Sikkim, along with a ceremonial shawl, a book on Shri Vishnu Purana, and a statue of Lord Buddha.

Poonia’s Current Responsibilities

Dr. Satish Poonia has been serving as the national general secretary of the BJP since August 17, 2026. His recent organizational role includes overseeing Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, with Veerendra Sachdeva and Dr. Alka Gurjar as co-in-charges in Punjab.

Poonia has previously held the position of state president of the Rajasthan BJP and has been in charge of Haryana. He is originally from Sadulpur in Churu district. Recently, he stated that the BJP plans to contest all 117 seats in the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027.

“I believe there should be no struggle for power or position. I hope that just as the party honored me by making me the state president, it will continue to recognize my work in the future,” said Dr. Satish Poonia in an interview on July 3, 2020.

Reflecting on a Six-Year-Old Interview

Rawat recalled the interview he conducted with Poonia on July 3, 2020, for a Hindi news portal when Poonia was the state president of the Rajasthan BJP. In that interview, Poonia emphasized that there should be no struggle for power and expressed hope for future recognition based on his contributions.

Rawat noted that since then, Poonia’s stature within the party has grown, marked by his roles in Haryana, his Rajya Sabha membership, and now as national general secretary with responsibilities in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. He expressed optimism that under Poonia’s leadership, the party will perform well in these regions.
