New Delhi, April 26: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh submitted a petition to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday, demanding the disqualification of seven Rajya Sabha MPs who defected to the BJP. Singh stated that the departure of these members from AAP is a clear violation of anti-defection laws, warranting action under the constitutional framework.
Sanjay Singh mentioned that AAP has consulted several constitutional experts, including senior advocate Kapil Sibal and former Lok Sabha Secretary General P.D.T. Achary, to seek legal and constitutional opinions on this matter. The party claims that these experts have also categorized the situation under the provisions of the anti-defection law.
Notably, seven out of ten AAP Rajya Sabha MPs joined the BJP on Friday. The defectors include Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, Vikramjeet Singh Sahni, Swati Maliwal, and Rajender Gupta.
This development has stirred significant political turmoil in the country. AAP alleges that this shift was driven by political pressure and fear of agencies, while the BJP claims it reflects ideological support and confidence in their leadership.
All eyes are now on Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan as he decides how to respond to this petition. If action is taken under the anti-defection law, it could have substantial implications for both Parliament and national politics.
