Ashok Gehlot Questions Moral Authority of Rajasthan Government After Meeting Family of Slain Ex-MLA

New Delhi, October 15: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot visited Bhati Kalan in Delhi on Wednesday to pay tribute to the late ex-BJP MLA, Atar Singh Bhardana, who was killed in Bharatpur. He met with the grieving family members to offer his condolences. Following the visit, Gehlot took to social media to criticize the state government, questioning the moral authority of both the Chief Minister and the Minister of Home Affairs to remain in their positions.

Gehlot expressed that the account shared by the family was deeply distressing. He stated that the murder of a former BJP MLA in the home district of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister signifies a complete breakdown of law and order in Rajasthan.

In his post, Gehlot wrote, “Today, I paid tribute to the late Atar Singh Bhardana in Bhati Kalan, Delhi, and offered solace to the grieving family.”

‘Dispute Acknowledged by Police for Two Years’

Gehlot noted that there had been an ongoing dispute regarding crushers and mines in the area for two years, which was known to the police. He criticized the police and government for their serious negligence in allowing such an incident to occur. He suggested that the Chief Minister should have summoned the Inspector General and Superintendent of Police to Jaipur for a complete briefing on the situation and taken stringent action afterward. Earlier, he had also criticized the government regarding this matter on Monday.

Government Action Labeled as ‘Temporary’

Gehlot described the government’s response as temporary, stating that the suspension of one SHO, the transfer of an Additional Superintendent of Police and a Deputy Superintendent, along with the sidelining of some police personnel, was insufficient to address public outrage. Following a high-level review by the Chief Minister, a total of nine police officials faced action: the officer in charge of the Vair police station, Dhirendra Singh, was suspended, six officials were transferred, and two were removed from their positions.

He questioned whether Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham still held the moral authority to remain in their roles after this incident.

  • The account from the family was extremely distressing.
  • The murder in the home district of the Chief Minister and Home Minister indicates a collapse of law and order.
  • The police were aware of the two-year-long dispute over crushers and mines, yet the incident occurred.
  • The Chief Minister should have summoned the IG and SP to Jaipur.
  • The government has yet to grasp the seriousness of the situation.

Current Status of the Case

A case was registered at the Vair police station based on a report filed by the late MLA’s wife, Kamlesh Bhardana, naming 80 individuals as accused, with 30 named specifically. As of October 13, five suspects had been arrested, and 25 to 30 teams have been deployed to locate the remaining suspects.
