Jaipur, April 27: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot‘s recent remarks about Congress leader Sachin Pilot have ignited fresh discussions in Rajasthan’s political landscape. Gehlot not only defended Pilot but also made a comment regarding his past rebellious stance, which quickly went viral on social media.
The controversy began when journalists questioned Gehlot about a statement from the BJP’s state in-charge, who referred to Pilot as a “shape-shifter,” claiming that one of his legs remains in Congress while the other is elsewhere. Gehlot promptly responded, stating, “Both of Sachin Pilot‘s legs are now firmly in Congress and will remain so.”
Gehlot further emphasized that Pilot has gained significant political experience. He remarked, “He has learned the consequences of making such mistakes. He now understands and has become more cautious.”
The former Chief Minister expressed hope that Pilot would never leave the party again, asserting that the entire Congress stands united with him. While Gehlot’s statement appeared to convey a message of unity, it also served as a political jab reminiscent of the 2020 Manesar incident.
Political analysts suggest multiple interpretations of Gehlot’s remarks. First, it indicates an attempt to showcase unity between two prominent party figures in light of upcoming elections and political challenges. Second, by referencing “the consequences of mistakes,” Gehlot hinted at the divide between experienced and young leadership. Third, it may be a strategic response to the BJP’s personal attacks on Pilot, the Tonk MLA.
Recently, the BJP launched sharp attacks on Pilot during an event in Tonk. Thus, Gehlot’s statement is also seen as a political counter from Congress. All eyes are now on Sachin Pilot’s response. Will he take Gehlot’s “advice” positively, or will this statement reignite old factional tensions within Congress? One thing is clear: Gehlot has made it evident that Pilot’s “ship” is set to land firmly on Congress’s runway.
