BSNL Sets New Record with 55 Lakh New Users, Challenges Jio with Strong Comeback

New Delhi, April 9 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is making headlines once again, this time for achieving a major milestone that positions it as a serious contender in India’s competitive telecom sector. As private players like Jio and Airtel continue to hike their tariff plans, BSNL is gaining momentum with competitive pricing, indigenous TECHNOLOGY, and improved service quality. According to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, BSNL has added 5.5 million (55 lakh) new subscribers in the past six months alone.

BSNL Sees Sharp Growth in Subscriber Base

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister highlighted the public sector telecom giant’s significant turnaround. Between June 2024 and February 2025, BSNL’s subscriber base rose from 85.5 million to 91 million, marking one of the strongest growth spurts in recent years. Scindia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving BSNL and strengthening its position in the telecom market.

This growth reflects BSNL’s aggressive push to attract users amid rising mobile service costs from private telecom players. The surge in subscribers is also being seen as a response to user dissatisfaction with expensive recharge plans from other service providers.

April Declared as ‘Customer Service Month’

BSNL has announced that April 2025 will be celebrated as ‘Customer Service Month’ across all its telecom circles and units. The initiative aims to enhance customer satisfaction by gathering feedback, resolving complaints, and implementing quality improvements.

The campaign focuses on real-time interaction with users across India, allowing BSNL to cater to region-specific service needs. The company has stated that customer feedback will directly influence future improvements in services and support systems.

BSNL’s 4G Expansion and 5G Readiness

In addition to subscriber growth, BSNL is rapidly expanding its 4G infrastructure, with over 80,000 new towers already installed out of the planned 1,04,000 towers. These towers are built entirely using indigenous technology, aligning with the government’s “Make in India” vision.

Crucially, all 4G towers deployed by BSNL are 5G-upgradable, setting the stage for the company’s eventual 5G rollout. BSNL has confirmed its intent to shift focus towards 5G development by mid-2025, once the nationwide 4G network is fully operational.

This dual strategy of expanding rural 4G coverage while preparing for 5G technology could make BSNL a game-changer in India’s telecom future.
