Jaipur, March 30: The Congress party’s organizational restructuring initiative in Rajasthan has hit a snag. Nearly four months after the appointment of district presidents, they have yet to announce their district committees, raising concerns about the party’s organizational momentum.
The appointment of district presidents across 50 organizational districts was conducted in a phased manner on November 22, 2022. It was claimed that committees would be formed within 15 days. However, this timeline has not been met. Initially, the proposal was to create a 71-member committee in each district. This was later revised by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to allow for a 31-member committee in districts with up to four assembly constituencies, and a 51-member committee in larger districts.
Several districts had already submitted preliminary lists of seven members, but these are now being revised according to the new guidelines. The process has stalled before the final list could be sent to Delhi.
The delay in forming these committees has also been attributed to the postponement of panchayat and urban body elections. While most district presidents have submitted their proposals to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), state president Govind Singh Dotasra will ensure that discussions with senior leaders occur before finalizing the list. Additionally, the representation of SC, ST, OBC, and minority groups will be reviewed. The approved list will ultimately be sent to the Congress high command in Delhi, where it will undergo scrutiny before the district committees are officially announced.
