Jaipur, April 18: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gahlot has launched a sharp attack on the central government following the collapse of the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. He accused the ruling party of orchestrating this entire event as part of a political strategy aimed at discrediting the opposition.
Gahlot stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah misled the nation and created conditions that prevented the bill from passing. He emphasized that the government should have involved all parties and convened an all-party meeting to reach a consensus.
He pointed out that Congress and other opposition parties have historically supported women’s reservation and backed the bill passed in 2023. Gahlot questioned the necessity of calling a special session during election time when the opposition was demanding to postpone the session.
He further accused the BJP of attempting to portray the opposition as anti-women in light of the upcoming elections. Gahlot reminded that Congress had already taken a historic step by providing reservation for women in the Panchayati Raj system.
Regarding the ongoing attacks on Rahul Gandhi, Gahlot remarked that the BJP is continuously trying to defame him, but the public has recognized the truth.
