RANCHI, April 13 The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for 10 districts in Jharkhand, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds up to 50 km/h on April 15. The alert includes both southern and northwestern parts of the state, with potential risks to public safety, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Thunderstorms and Lightning Expected in Southern and Northwestern Jharkhand
The alert covers the southern districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, and Seraikela-Kharsawan, as well as the northwestern districts of Palamu, Garhwa, Latehar, Chatra, Lohardaga, and Koderma. According to the IMD, these areas may witness lightning strikes, hail, and gusty winds ranging from 40–50 km/h.
This significant weather event is part of a broader disturbance impacting eastern India and has prompted local authorities to advise precautionary measures, particularly for outdoor workers, farmers, and rural populations.
Yellow Alert for April 14 Across Most of Jharkhand
Ahead of the severe activity on April 15, a Yellow Alert has been announced for April 14, excluding the western parts of the state. The forecast includes chances of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds between 30–50 km/h. Residents across the state are encouraged to stay indoors during storm activity and monitor updates from official channels.
Moderate Weather Conditions Recorded on Sunday
On Sunday, Jharkhand experienced relatively moderate weather. Skies remained mostly clear with patches of cloud cover and light to moderate winds. The temperatures were typical for this time of year, with Ranchi recording a high of 35°C, Jamshedpur 37.1°C, Daltonganj 37.4°C, and Bokaro topping at 39.1°C.
While the heat remained bearable, the forecasted weather changes may disrupt normalcy over the coming days. IMD officials urge citizens to take all necessary precautions, especially in areas under the Orange Alert.
