Red Alert for Heatwave in Barmer, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer: Rajasthan Braces for Intense Heat

Jaipur, April 16 The heatwave has gripped almost the entire state of RAJASTHAN, excluding the southern districts. With soaring temperatures and hot winds sweeping across the region, the INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Barmer, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer, warning of severe heat conditions over the next few days.

Western Rajasthan Under Red Alert

On Wednesday, the cities of Barmer, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer have been placed under red alert due to intense heatwave conditions. Additionally, 11 other districts are under orange and yellow alerts as temperatures surge.

Barmer recorded the highest temperature in the state on Tuesday, peaking at 45.5°C, while Jaisalmer followed closely at 45°C. Other affected cities include:

Phalodi 44.4°C
Chittorgarh 43.1°C
Jalore 42.4°C
Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar 42.3°C
Jodhpur 42.2°C

These areas experienced harsh sunlight and dry winds throughout the day, marking the onset of an aggressive heatwave.

Weather Fluctuations in South Rajasthan

While Barmer and western regions suffered extreme heat, places like Udaipur and Dungarpur experienced minor changes in the weather. Light clouds gathered in the afternoon with traces of rain reported in a few areas.

Forecast and Advisory

According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of Jaipur Meteorological Centre, a weak western disturbance may influence some parts of Rajasthan on April 16–17, possibly causing dust storms, light cloud cover, and scattered rain or drizzle in certain areas.

The IMD has issued:

Red Alert: Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer (April 17–18)
Orange & Yellow Alerts: Across 11 districts
Yellow Alert Only: Valid on April 19
