Samsung appears poised to shake up its flagship Galaxy lineup once again in 2026. According to recent industry reports, the company may eliminate the Galaxy S26 Plus model entirely, replacing it with a more streamlined and ultra-slim Galaxy S26 Edge.

The move comes amid underwhelming sales of the S25 Plus, which trailed behind its sibling models despite comparable specs. As consumer demand shifts toward thinner smartphones, the Galaxy S26 Edge could be Samsung’s answer to growing interest in sleek designs and premium aesthetics.
Galaxy S26 Series Development Underway
Codenamed “NPA,” the Galaxy S26 series is already in early development, as per a South Korean industry report. So far, three devices are reportedly on the roadmap:
-
Galaxy S26 (base model)
-
Galaxy S26 Edge (ultra-slim variant)
-
Galaxy S26 Ultra (premium flagship)
Notably absent is the Galaxy S26 Plus, which seems to have been dropped due to weak demand. The Galaxy S25 Plus sold only 6.7 million units, compared to 13.6 million for the S25 and 17.4 million for the S25 Ultra, reinforcing the shift away from the Plus model.
Galaxy S26 Edge: Filling the Mid-Range Flagship Gap
Following the introduction of the S25 Edge, Samsung seems ready to evolve the “Edge” branding into a full-fledged successor to the Plus series. The Galaxy S26 Edge is expected to retain the ultra-slim profile that defined its predecessor, likely appealing to users seeking style, portability, and edge-to-edge visuals.
The slim design of the S25 Edge came with trade-offs—such as a 3,900mAh battery and no telephoto lens—but Samsung is reportedly working on solutions. One possible improvement could be the adoption of silicon-carbon battery TECHNOLOGY, allowing for better power capacity in thinner form factors.
Display and Hardware Rumors
Initial leaks suggest that the Galaxy S26 Edge may feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, placing it between the base S26 and Ultra variants. Internally, the device is expected to house the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, providing flagship-level performance with AI enhancements.
Samsung is reportedly developing four distinct OLED panels for the S26 series, indicating flexibility in model offerings. Should the Edge model not meet sales expectations, the S26 Plus could still return—but the momentum suggests a shift is already underway.
Camera: Will the Telephoto Make a Return?
Camera specifications remain speculative, but industry watchers expect Samsung to enhance the Edge’s imaging capabilities. The S25 Edge lacked a telephoto lens, unlike the S25 Plus which included a 10MP 3x zoom sensor. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will introduce a telephoto module into the S26 Edge to better position it for users prioritizing photography.
If Samsung resolves these compromises, the Galaxy S26 Edge could effectively replace the Plus as the go-to device for those seeking a balanced flagship experience—delivering premium performance, sleek design, and capable imaging, all in a slimmer frame.
