Weather Alert: Haryana Braces for Thunderstorms in 3 Districts, Winds Up to 40 km/h; Sirsa Records Highest Temperature

Bhiwani, May 7, 2025 The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a shift in weather patterns across Haryana starting Wednesday, with Panchkula, Ambala, and Yamunanagar likely to experience thunderstorms, light rain, and winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h.

: IMD Issues Rain and Storm Warnings

While most districts will witness dry conditions, isolated rainfall and cloud cover are expected in northern and southern regions of the state. The variability in weather is expected to persist until May 11, with another active Western Disturbance predicted to influence conditions starting late May 10.

Three Districts on Alert for Rain and Gusty Winds

According to IMD:

  • May 7–8: Panchkula, Ambala, and Yamunanagar will see cloudy skies, thunder and lightning, with wind speeds of 30–40 km/h.

  • May 9: Rain is expected in 8 districts — Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh, and Rewari.

  • May 10: Broader rain coverage across up to 16 districts, with 25–50% rainfall probability in northern and central Haryana, including Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Gurugram, and Faridabad.

Sirsa Hottest at 35.6°C Despite General Temperature Dip

On Tuesday, the state saw a 2.6°C drop in maximum temperatures, keeping most regions below seasonal norms by up to 5°C. However, Sirsa emerged as the warmest district, recording a maximum of 35.6°C.
Other key observations:

  • Clear skies and dry weather expected in Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Jind, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri until May 10.

  • North-easterly winds are expected to dominate, occasionally leading to scattered drizzle or light showers.

Expert Insight: Weather to Remain Unstable

Dr. Madan Kheechad, Head of the Agrometeorology Department at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, noted that a weak Western Disturbance and two cyclonic circulations are contributing to the ongoing weather fluctuation. He added that northeastern winds would likely maintain this unstable pattern until May 11.
