NEET-UG 2025 Exam Pattern Revised: Fewer Questions, Single-Part Paper

Kota, January 26 : The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced changes to the NEET-UG 2025 exam pattern, bringing it back to its pre-2021 format. The revised structure will include 180 questions, down from 200, and the duration of the exam has been reduced by 20 minutes. Additionally, the paper will now be presented in a single part rather than two sections.

Key Changes in NEET-UG 2025 Exam Pattern

1. Total Questions Reduced

The exam will now feature 180 questions, compared to the 200 questions in previous years.
Subject-wise distribution:
- Physics: 45 questions.
- Chemistry: 45 questions.
- Biology (Botany and Zoology): 90 questions.

2. Single-Part Paper

The paper will no longer be divided into Section A and Section B.
All questions will be compulsory, unlike the earlier format where candidates could choose from optional questions in Section B.

3. Shorter Exam Duration

The total exam duration has been reduced from 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours.

Past Exam Format vs. Revised Format

Earlier Format (NEET-UG 2021-2024):

Total Questions: 200
Divided into Section A (mandatory) and Section B (optional).
- Section A: Physics (35), Chemistry (35), Biology (70).
- Section B: Physics (15), Chemistry (15), Biology (30) candidates could attempt a subset of these questions.
Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes.

Revised Format (NEET-UG 2025):

Total Questions: 180.
- Physics (45), Chemistry (45), Biology (90).
Single-part paper; all questions mandatory.
Duration: 3 hours.

Reason for the Change

According to CAREER counseling expert Parijat Mishra, this revision reverts to the COVID-19 pandemic-era pattern used prior to 2021. The simplified structure is expected to reduce confusion among candidates and streamline the evaluation process.
