IMD Issues Alert for Thunderstorms and Lightning
According to the IMD, Madhya Pradesh will witness unstable weather conditions through June 10, with a mix of scorching heat in some places and a dip in temperatures elsewhere due to intense rainfall. A significant concern is the risk of lightning strikes during thunderstorms, prompting authorities to advise people to avoid venturing outdoors during inclement weather.
Districts Under Heavy Rain Watch
On Saturday, June 7, districts including Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Jhabua have been placed under a heavy rainfall alert with the likelihood of lightning. Additional districts such as Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Dewas, Khandwa, Burhanpur, and Harda are also expected to receive intense downpours.
The weather department has further predicted rain with thunderstorms in Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, and Narsinghpur, while Chhindwara, Pandhurna, and Seoni may also witness thunderstorm activity accompanied by moderate to heavy rain.
Forecast for the Next Four Days
The weather pattern is expected to remain volatile across central and southern parts of Madhya Pradesh over the next four days:
-
June 7: Heavy rain likely in Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Dewas, Khandwa, Burhanpur, and Harda. Thunderstorms with lightning are also expected in Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, and Seoni.
-
June 8: Areas including Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Betul, and Harda are expected to receive showers. Heavy rain may occur in Khandwa, Burhanpur, Dewas, Indore, Khargone, Dhar, and Barwani.
-
June 9–10: IMD has extended the heavy rainfall warning for most of the affected districts, including repeated alerts for areas such as Indore, Khargone, Dhar, Barwani, and surrounding regions.
Residents Urged to Exercise Caution
With lightning posing a serious risk during these storms, the weather department has advised residents—especially in rural and forested areas—to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or in open fields. Farmers and outdoor workers are particularly advised to monitor weather updates closely and take precautions.
The ongoing rainfall is seen as a precursor to the arrival of the monsoon in Madhya Pradesh, expected later this month. Meanwhile, the state continues to grapple with erratic weather swings, impacting daily life and agricultural activities alike.
