Chennai, February 27: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed that the team’s video analyst’s presentation helped reset their mindset, allowing them to approach their T20 World Cup match with renewed confidence. India secured a convincing 72-run victory against Zimbabwe in a crucial Super 8 match held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.
Thanks to half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya, India posted a remarkable total of 256 runs for the loss of just four wickets, marking their highest score in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This significant win sets the stage for their upcoming match against the West Indies in Kolkata, which is almost a knockout encounter. In response, Zimbabwe managed to score only 184 runs, losing six wickets.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar stated, “I think we all wanted to leave everything behind. We didn’t dwell much on our previous game in Ahmedabad. Our video analyst prepared a slide for all batsmen and bowlers, highlighting what we did well last year. We focused on that, gained a lot of positivity, and came here with clarity. With contributions from the top order down to number seven, I believe there was hardly any flaw in our performance.”
Suryakumar also acknowledged the need for improvement in their bowling, saying, “To be honest, we could have been a bit more clinical with the ball. But in the end, a win is a win, and we will carry this momentum forward. When we play against the West Indies, we will definitely tighten our game.”
He praised Zimbabwe’s batting approach, stating, “I don’t want to take any credit away from Zimbabwe’s batsmen. I think they batted very well. Yes, the wicket was good, but the way they managed their innings, taking their time during the powerplay and then accelerating smartly, was impressive.”
He added, “They deserve credit too. From a bowling perspective, we could have been a bit smarter with some decisions at crucial moments. In such situations, we need to show courage in our choices. There is no option but to adopt a positive approach.”
