Greater Noida, February 27: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh’s father, Khan Chand Singh, passed away early Friday morning. He had been fighting a severe case of liver cancer for an extended period.
Reports indicate that he was suffering from stage four liver cancer, and his condition had deteriorated significantly in recent days. On February 21, due to a sudden decline in health, he was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he was placed on ventilator support.
According to hospital sources, he took his last breath around 4:36 AM on Friday. The news of his passing sent shockwaves through the family. Official confirmation of his death came around 5 AM, after which relatives took his body home.
Upon learning of his father’s critical condition, Rinku Singh left the Indian team immediately to return home. At the time, he was in Chennai participating in a training session with the team. He had to leave the team’s practice during the T20 World Cup to be with his family.
After fulfilling his family responsibilities, Rinku returned to Chennai on February 25 to rejoin the team. However, he was not part of the playing eleven in the Super-8 match against Zimbabwe on February 26 and was present as a substitute player.
Rinku Singh comes from a family of five brothers, and his father worked in cylinder delivery. The family’s financial situation was not strong, so all the brothers contributed by delivering gas cylinders on bikes to homes and hotels.
Rinku faced significant struggles to pursue cricket. He and his friends would pool money together to buy a cricket ball. Today, Rinku Singh is a prominent name in Indian cricket, but his father’s sacrifices and struggles played a crucial role in his success. His passing has left a wave of grief in both the family and the SPORTS community.
