Heatwave Alert in Rajasthan as Jaisalmer Touches 38°C

Jaipur, March 7, 2026 (Daily Udaipur): Heat conditions have intensified across Rajasthan, with daytime temperatures rising significantly above normal levels. On Friday, the maximum temperature reached 38°C in Jaisalmer and Chittorgarh, marking one of the hottest days of the season so far.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in western Rajasthan on March 9 and 10. Weather officials said the coming week is likely to remain clear across the state, with strong heat expected to continue.

Temperature Above Normal

Several districts recorded temperatures well above the seasonal average. In Sri Ganganagar, the maximum temperature was recorded 9.4°C above normal. Jaisalmer registered 7.5°C above normal, while Churu 7.3°C, Jaipur 6.7°C, Bikaner 6.9°C, Ajmer 5.6°C and Barmer 5.1°C above normal. Temperatures in Jodhpur and Kota were also around 4.9°C higher than usual.

Weather experts attributed the early rise in temperatures to an anti-cyclone system active over the Arabian Sea, which has been influencing weather patterns across Rajasthan as well as neighbouring states including Gujarat, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.

Nights Still Relatively Cool

Despite intense heat during the day, people are experiencing some relief during late evening and night hours as temperatures drop.

On Friday, the minimum temperature in most cities remained below 20°C, except in Kota, Jaipur and Phalodi. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 10.6°C in Fatehpur.

Yellow Alert for Barmer

The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in Barmer district on March 9 and 10. Officials also indicated that areas such as Jaisalmer and Balotra could experience similar heatwave conditions.
