Jaipur, April 19: Political dynamics in Rajasthan are heating up following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address to the nation. During his speech on Saturday night, Modi accused the opposition of being anti-women and apologized to the women of India. This sparked a flurry of political responses, particularly from former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who dismissed the Prime Minister’s claims during a media interaction in Jaipur and issued a direct challenge.
Gehlot sharply countered Modi’s assertions, stating that if the Prime Minister truly believes that women will teach the opposition a lesson, he should dissolve the Lok Sabha and call for new elections immediately. He emphasized that the women of the nation will decide their allegiance independently. Gehlot also raised concerns about the central government’s intentions, alleging that the proposed system aims to influence the rights of OBC women based on the 2011 census.
He further stated that the actual number of OBCs will only be revealed after the caste census planned for 2026, making any form of reservation or redistricting premature. Gehlot criticized the government for introducing a bill that does not provide a separate quota for OBC women, which he deemed unjust.
Additionally, Gehlot questioned the Election Commission, claiming that Modi’s address during elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu violated the election code of conduct. He remarked that the Election Commission has become merely an “election department” for the BJP, suggesting that no action is to be expected from them.
In his address, PM Modi had expressed regret to the women of India regarding the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ bill, stating that it was designed to secure women’s rights and that its benefits would be realized in the future. The political clash between the BJP and Congress is intensifying over this issue. Political analysts note that the women’s vote bank has historically played a decisive role in Rajasthan, indicating that this topic could generate further political heat. The BJP is framing it as an obstacle posed by the opposition, while Congress is strategizing to connect it with OBC and women’s rights to engage the public.
Gehlot’s response to the Prime Minister’s address was shared on social media, emphasizing the need for immediate elections if Modi is confident in his claims.
