Political Tensions Rise Over Womens Reservation in Rajasthan

Jaipur, April 19: The political landscape in Rajasthan is heating up over the issue of women’s reservation. Opposition leader Tikaram Julie sharply criticized Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma following a press conference, raising questions about both the central and state governments. Speaking to the media in Jaipur, Julie pointed out that the Women’s Reservation Bill was unanimously passed by Parliament in 2023, yet it has not been implemented. He questioned why this law has been stalled for three years and why the central government is not taking responsibility.

Julie accused the BJP of injustice towards OBC women’s rights by not conducting a caste-based census. He emphasized that without an accurate census, the true benefits of reservation will not reach the marginalized communities. He also claimed that the government has deliberately linked the issues of delimitation and census to delay the law for political gain.

Targeting the Chief Minister, Julie stated that he is being operated by “remote control” from Delhi and is merely reading a prepared script without independent thought. He sarcastically remarked that the party that removed a female leader from the chief minister’s position is now talking about women’s honor. Julie accused the BJP of lacking a clear policy and genuine intent towards women’s issues.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’, Julie asserted that it is being presented merely as an electoral issue. He further alleged that the BJP aims to manipulate political balance in its favor based on the 2011 census, which is not appropriate for a democratic system.

Julie concluded by stating that women in the state and the country are fully aware and will make informed decisions on this issue at the right time. He warned that politics treating women merely as a vote bank will face consequences in the upcoming elections. Following this statement, the debate over women’s reservation and OBC representation in state politics has intensified.
