Singrauli, April 22:
In a significant move to enhance road safety and protect passengers, the Transport Department has launched a rigorous inspection campaign targeting school and passenger buses in Singrauli. This initiative is being conducted under the directives of Umesh Joga, the Transport Commissioner, with RTO checkpoint in-charge Vibha Uike and her team actively overseeing the operations.
During the campaign, thorough checks are being carried out on fitness certificates, permits, insurance, driving licenses, and pollution certificates (PUC) for both school and passenger buses. Vehicles operating without valid documentation are being fined on the spot. Additionally, the availability of mandatory safety equipment—such as panic buttons, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, emergency windows, and speed governors—is being ensured in all buses.
The administration is strictly enforcing pollution control measures in accordance with the National Green Tribunal’s standards. Vehicles lacking a PUC or emitting excessive smoke are being halted immediately. Special attention is being given to prevent overloading in school buses to ensure the safety of children, while strict actions are being taken against passenger buses carrying more passengers than permitted.
Several irregularities have been identified during the checks, including operation without fitness certification, overloading, and lack of safety equipment. Immediate fines have been issued, and operators have been warned sternly. Drivers are also undergoing special scrutiny to verify the validity of their licenses and ensure they are not under the influence of substances. A “zero tolerance” policy is being enforced against those driving under the influence.
The RTO checkpoint team has provided clear instructions to school management and bus operators to adhere to all safety standards. Any negligence will result in action against the respective institution or operator.
Vibha Uike stated that this campaign will continue indefinitely, emphasizing that there will be no compromise on safety. The goal is to ensure that all school and passenger buses in Singrauli operate safely, in compliance with regulations, and responsibly.
The administration believes that this joint rigorous inspection campaign will reduce road accidents, enhance the safety of children and passengers, and make the district’s transport system more disciplined and reliable.
