
Jaipur, June 30: The World Social Media Day was celebrated at the Constitution Club in Jaipur, led by former RTDC Chairman Dharmendra Rathore. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was the chief guest at the event, where he engaged in discussions with journalists from social media, digital media, print, and electronic outlets.
During the event, Gehlot, along with AICC Secretary CP Mittal, former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Jaipur City Congress Committee President Sunil Sharma, and organizer Dharmendra Rathore, shared their insights on the role of social and digital media.
Social Media is Safeguarding Democracy: Gehlot
Gehlot emphasized the crucial and revolutionary role of social media in today’s world. He pointed out that the media in the country is under pressure from the government and is fearful. He urged the media to perform its duties fearlessly.
He stated that since the advent of social media, it has played a vital role in preserving democracy in the country. Former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas remarked that media has the power to fight for truth at all times. During the program, AICC Secretary CP Mittal and Jaipur City Congress Committee President Sunil Sharma also addressed the audience. They stressed the importance of strengthening social media, its responsibilities, and its democratic role.

Demand for Reinstating Social Media Policy
During the event, journalists connected to social media called for the reinstatement of the social media policy implemented during Gehlot’s tenure. They noted that this policy was discontinued by the current government. Social media representatives urged for the policy’s revival to empower journalists and effectively address public interest issues.
The event saw a significant turnout of journalists from Rajasthan’s print media, electronic media, social media influencers, and digital media.
