Congress Protests UCC Public Hearing in Jaipur, Demands Withdrawal of Order

Jaipur, July 6: The Congress party has voiced strong opposition to the proposed public hearing regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. Govind Singh Dotasra, the President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, has written to Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the order for this public hearing.

In his letter, Dotasra emphasized that the government has yet to prepare or publicly release any draft of the UCC law. He pointed out that no portal or other means has been established to invite suggestions and objections from the public. According to him, making any draft public is a crucial part of the democratic process.

Dotasra accused the government of attempting to instigate unwarranted debates in society without releasing any draft. He stated that this move could directly impact the social fabric of the state and potentially disrupt communal harmony.

He further explained that such discussions could raise serious concerns among various religions, castes, and tribes regarding their rights, traditions, and customs. Dotasra warned that this public hearing might foster a sense of animosity among different social groups.

The Congress party firmly opposes any discussions that could affect the social harmony and goodwill in the state. Dotasra asserted that there is no legal justification for conducting this public hearing without a draft and urged the government to retract it immediately.

Additionally, Dotasra criticized the state government for failing to address issues affecting the general public. He highlighted the deteriorating healthcare system in the state, where people are not receiving timely medical treatment and the availability of essential medicines is compromised.

He also raised concerns about the education system, noting that school buildings are in disrepair, teaching positions remain vacant, and students lack basic facilities. Dotasra expressed alarm over the law and order situation, citing increasing crimes against women and children that are bringing shame to the state.

The Congress party insists that the government should prioritize healthcare, education, law and order, and public welfare issues. Conducting a public hearing on the UCC without a draft is neither practical nor legally sound.
