Rajasthan Ministers Question Congress Protest Over Ritu Barala Case

Jaipur, October 21: In response to the ongoing Congress protest at the Jaipur Police Commissionerate regarding the Ritu Barala case, two state ministers have raised questions. Law and Justice Minister Jogaram Patel and Home Minister Jawahar Singh Behdham stated on Tuesday that since a complaint has already been filed in Delhi and an investigation is underway, there is no justification for holding a protest in Jaipur over the same issue.

Jogaram Patel remarked that the protest appears to be more about Congress leaders vying for leadership positions than about seeking justice. He suggested that the Congress leaders are using the situation to enhance their standing within the party, rather than genuinely advocating for justice.

Patel emphasized that the ongoing investigation by the Delhi police should be allowed to proceed without interference. He questioned the motives behind the Congress protest, given that legal proceedings are already in motion in Delhi.

Home Minister Jawahar Singh Behdham echoed these sentiments, stating that the complaint has already been submitted to the Delhi police, making the Jaipur protest unnecessary. He urged Congress leaders to clarify what pressure they are attempting to exert through their demonstration.

Behdham also asserted that the law applies equally to everyone. He called for a fair investigation into the allegations and stated that if someone is found guilty, appropriate legal action should follow. He noted that the truth of any allegation should be determined through a thorough investigation and evidence, not through protests or slogans.

The controversy centers around the Jaipur police’s refusal to file a zero FIR. The police have stated that a complaint is already registered at the Connaught Place police station in Delhi, and an investigation is ongoing under FIR 291/2026. Therefore, filing a separate FIR in Jaipur is not considered legally appropriate.

Congress argues that a zero FIR should be filed against the police personnel in Delhi. This demand has led state president Govind Singh Dotasra and other leaders to stage a protest at the commissionerate since Monday evening. The dispute now revolves around where the FIR should be filed, rather than whether the allegations should be investigated.
