Apple Vision Air Leak Hints at Lightweight, Affordable Mixed Reality Headset

Apple appears to be expanding its mixed reality ambitions beyond the premium Vision Pro. According to recent leaks, the Cupertino giant is developing a thinner and lighter headset—reportedly dubbed the Apple Vision Air. Aimed at offering a more affordable and accessible alternative to the Vision Pro, this new device could mark a major step in mainstreaming Apple’s spatial computing vision.

Apple Vision Air: Lightweight Design Using Titanium and Aluminium

According to reliable tipster @Kosutami_Ito, the upcoming Apple Vision Air will feature a redesigned, slim form factor. It is expected to be significantly lighter than the Apple Vision Pro, which weighs up to 650 grams without the external battery pack.

To achieve this reduction, Apple is reportedly using a hybrid metal build: internal components crafted from titanium for weight savings, while the external shell could be made from aluminium. This construction would mirror Apple’s strategy in other product lines, such as the MacBook Air and iPhone 15 Pro series.

Possible Features and Color Options

Though specific technical specs are still under wraps, the Vision Air is expected to retain core features from the Vision Pro, including spatial computing capabilities, immersive display TECHNOLOGY, and advanced sensors for AR and VR experiences. However, it may have less advanced hardware or fewer sensors to cut costs.

The headset could debut in a new Graphite or Dark Blue colorway, reminiscent of the iPhone 5 lineup. In contrast, the Vision Pro is currently only available in a silver/white finish, making this a stylistic shift in Apple’s headset lineup.

Price and Positioning: A New ‘Air’ Tier

The Vision Air branding suggests Apple is positioning the new headset similarly to its other ‘Air’ products—lighter, simpler, and more affordable versions of its flagship devices. Priced significantly lower than the $3,500 Vision Pro, the Vision Air could open the door for wider adoption of mixed reality tech.

While it’s unclear whether the Vision Air is the same device as the cheaper Vision Pro refresh that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently referenced, the leaks align in pointing toward a 2025 release window and a focus on lower weight and cost.
