Kota, August 2: Arundhati Chaudhary from Kota has made history by winning a gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. In the women’s boxing final of the 70 kg weight category, she defeated England’s Chantel Reed by a unanimous decision of 5-0. This victory adds another gold medal to India’s boxing achievements.
From the start of the final match, Arundhati displayed controlled and aggressive gameplay. She maintained pressure on the English boxer with precise punches, superior footwork, and strong defensive techniques. All five judges awarded the decision in favor of the Indian boxer.
Chantel Reed had secured her place in the final by defeating Australia’s Leikisha Pergoliti 5-0 in the semifinals. Despite the support of the home crowd, Reed could not effectively respond to Arundhati’s technique and aggression.
Arundhati’s victory marks the fifth boxing gold medal for India in this competition. Prior to her win, Preeti Pawar, Jasmine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, and Priya Ghanghas had also claimed gold in their respective weight categories.
