Big Update for Ration Card Holders — New Rule to Be Implemented from July

Ration Rules July Update: There’s an important new development for Ration Card holders in Uttar Pradesh. Beginning next month, new verification rules will be rolled out under the Take Home Ration (THR) Scheme to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive ration supplies.

According to the latest directive from the Yogi Adityanath government, from July 1, 2025, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children will receive ration only after OTP and facial verification linked to their Aadhaar number. The move will impact around 1.18 crore beneficiaries across the state.

Why the New Verification Rule?

The objective of the new rule is to:

  • Prevent irregularities in ration distribution

  • Ensure transparency

  • Target benefits to the right beneficiaries

From July 1, all existing beneficiaries will require FRS (Face Recognition System) verification, and this will also be mandatory for new beneficiaries starting August 1.

How Will the New FRS Verification Work?

The FRS verification process will follow double authentication:

  1. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with the beneficiary’s Aadhaar.

  2. A face scan will also be done at the Anganwadi center.

The scanned image will be matched with Aadhaar-linked e-KYC data. Only after this verification will ration be distributed.

Free Ration Distribution for Monsoon Months

In light of the upcoming monsoon season, the UP government has also instructed officials to provide free ration for June, July, and August 2025 at the earliest.

  • June ration: Distribution began from June 10

  • July ration: To be distributed from June 20

  • August ration: To be distributed between June 25 and July 6

Antyodaya card holders will continue to receive 35 kg of grains per card, while household card holders will get 5 kg of grains per member.

e-KYC Also Mandatory for Ration Card Holders

In addition to FRS, the state is pushing for mandatory e-KYC (Know Your Customer) for all ration card holders.

Why e-KYC?
It helps:

  • Verify the identity of genuine beneficiaries

  • Eliminate fake ration cards

  • Ensure only deserving citizens receive government benefits

During e-KYC, member details such as name and date of birth are matched against Aadhaar data.

How to Complete Ration Card e-KYC Online

You can complete Ration Card e-KYC online in just a few simple steps:

  1. Visit your state’s official Public Distribution System (PDS) website.

  2. Look for the option: ‘e-KYC for Ration Card’ or similar, under the Services or Ration Card menu.

  3. Enter your Ration Card number and Aadhaar number.

  4. Use your Aadhaar-linked mobile number to receive an OTP.

  5. Enter the OTP and complete the verification process.

Once completed, you will receive a confirmation message that your e-KYC is updated.

Final Word

From July 2025, OTP + face verification and e-KYC will become mandatory for UP ration card holders under the Take Home Ration Scheme. If you haven’t done your e-KYC yet, complete it as soon as possible to avoid disruptions in receiving ration benefits.

Stay tuned for further updates on this important scheme!
