
Udaipur, April 12: Udaipur police have successfully apprehended two notorious criminals from Madhya Pradesh, dismantling an inter-state gang responsible for stealing jewelry and cash during weddings. The suspects are accused of stealing approximately ₹40 lakh worth of gold and silver ornaments from a wedding ceremony in the city last month. Under the leadership of SP Dr. Amrita Duhan, the police acted based on technical and human intelligence, recovering the stolen jewelry as well.
Criminals Fled with Bag from Reception
On March 11, 2026, during a reception at Terapanth Bhawan in Mahapragya Vihar, the criminals disguised themselves as guests. They seized a bag containing jewelry meant for the bride from the father of the groom, Narendra Sharma, and escaped. The incident was captured on CCTV, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
Investigation Extended to Villages in Madhya Pradesh
The investigation revealed that this gang operates from the villages of Kadiya Sansi and Gulkhadi in Rajgarh district, Madhya Pradesh. The police team set up camp there, conducting surveillance and developing an informant network. Subsequently, they arrested 26-year-old Vikas and 24-year-old Nakul from Ashoknagar.
Confessions of Over 50 Crimes
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to over 50 thefts and robberies across several states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. This gang not only targeted weddings for jewelry theft but also preyed on individuals withdrawing cash from banks.
Suspects Injured While Attempting to Escape
Upon noticing the police, both criminals attempted to flee but were injured in the process, allowing the team to apprehend them. Numerous criminal cases have been registered against both suspects in various states. Additionally, Nakul’s father has 16 serious cases filed against him.
Ongoing Investigation into the Entire Network
Currently, the police are interrogating the suspects to gather information about other gang members and their network. The Sukher police station and cyber cell played crucial roles in this operation.
