Congress Issues Show-Cause Notice to Vishvendra Singh Amid Internal Disputes

Jaipur, October 3: The ongoing conflict between former minister Vishvendra Singh and the leadership of the Rajasthan Congress has escalated to disciplinary action. The state Congress committee’s disciplinary committee has issued a show-cause notice to Singh, a former MLA from Deeg-Kumher, demanding a response within seven days. The notice questions why he should not be suspended from primary membership due to allegations of anti-party activities and indiscipline.

The notice, issued on October 2 by Udaylal Anjana, chairman of the disciplinary committee, cites complaints received from the Bharatpur and Deeg district Congress committees as the basis for this action. Copies of the notice have also been sent to state in-charge and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, state president Govind Singh Dotasra, and the district presidents of Deeg and Bharatpur.

Eight Allegations in the Notice

  1. Has not participated in party programs and important meetings for a long time.
  2. Sends ‘Do Not Disturb Me’ messages instead of discussing with district presidents when contacted.
  3. Did not assist or participate in candidate selection and campaigning for the recent municipal elections.
  4. Claimed that a Congress-supported candidate withdrew from the Bharatpur Municipal Corporation chairperson election at his behest, leading to a BJP candidate being elected unopposed.
  5. Criticized district presidents via social media, undermining their authority.
  6. Challenged the All India Congress Committee’s decisions on district president appointments on social media, which is not an appropriate platform.
  7. Made derogatory statements against state president Govind Singh Dotasra, damaging the party’s image.
  8. Publicly declared ‘goodbye’ to the party on social media, indicating a lack of faith in its ideology and discipline.

Vishvendra Singh Responds: ‘I Haven’t Resigned’

Vishvendra Singh addressed the notice and the ongoing disputes within the party, asserting that he has not resigned from Congress but has merely expressed his views. He raised concerns about the functioning of both district presidents, claiming that the state leadership is aware of the issues.

He pointed out that out of 40 wards in Deeg, only four candidates received tickets, and all lost, with one candidate securing just 10 votes. Singh stated that he has consistently opposed the district presidents but was not heard. He also mentioned that senior Congress leaders have engaged in discussions with him and acknowledged some of his concerns.

Singh emphasized that he would not compromise his self-respect and would not tolerate any disrespect.

Election Results Overview

In the municipal elections, Congress managed to win only 19 out of 415 wards across 13 urban bodies in Bharatpur and Deeg districts. In Deeg, the party secured just four wards out of 180. No Congress board was formed in either district, and the mayoral election in Bharatpur was uncontested, as noted in the fourth point of the notice.

Timeline of the Dispute

September 30: Following the municipal election results, Vishvendra Singh questioned the ticket distribution by both district presidents and the state leadership, claiming the state president was ‘deaf and mute.’
October 1: He raised concerns about ticket selection by counting votes in five wards of Deeg; Dotasra responded, stating, ‘We are all united.’
October 2: Singh posted ‘goodbye’ to Congress on social media; Dotasra stated no written resignation had been received, and on the same day, the disciplinary committee issued the notice.
