DA Hike Update: Central Government Employees Likely to Get 60% DA – Here’s What You Need to Know

7th Pay Commission Update: There’s good news in store for central government employees and pensioners. The government is expected to announce a significant increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) soon, potentially raising DA to 60%. This hike will provide much-needed financial relief, especially in light of rising inflation.

Expected 3-4% DA Hike in July 2025

Under the 7th Pay Commission, DA is revised twice a year – in January and July. However, the official announcements usually come with a delay of a few months. The All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW), which serves as the benchmark for calculating DA/DR, has steadily increased. It was 143 in March 2025 and has now climbed to 144 by May.

Based on this data, experts estimate that a 3% DA hike is almost certain, with a 4% hike also possible depending on the final index value. This means the current DA of 55% could rise to 58%, effective July 1, 2025.

DA Could Reach 60% by January 2026

If the AICPI-IW continues to rise at the current pace, and increases by another 2 points by the end of the year, then by January 2026, the DA is expected to touch the 60% mark. This would be a major milestone, especially considering that the DA stood at 0% when the 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016.

Announcement Timeline

The official announcement regarding the DA hike is likely to come in September or October 2025, with arrears being paid accordingly. This increase will benefit both active employees and pensioners, providing a financial cushion against inflation.

8th Pay Commission on the Horizon

Adding to the excitement, the 8th Pay Commission has also been constituted and is expected to be implemented from January 2026. This would bring further changes in basic salary, allowances like DA, TA, and more.
