New Delhi, April 11: Products created by rural women are now available in major retail stores and quick commerce platforms across the Delhi-NCR region.
With a turnover of ₹2.6 crore, over 400 women are now reaching larger cities, empowering more than 26,800 women.
Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has achieved a significant milestone through its Sakhi initiative, aimed at making rural women in Rajasthan self-reliant. The women-led brand Daichi is now accessible in Modern Bazaar stores and on platforms like Blinkit.
Daichi offers a diverse range of high-quality FMCG products, including pickles, honey, spices, lentils, snacks, oils, and ghee, all handcrafted and managed by rural women entrepreneurs. This expansion into organized retail represents a crucial step in connecting grassroots producers with urban consumers.
On this achievement, Hindustan Zinc‘s CEO and Managing Director Arun Mishra stated, “Our goal is to connect these women-led small enterprises with mainstream markets. The availability of Daichi in large retail stores and on Blinkit is a significant step towards strengthening rural livelihoods and fostering positive societal change.”
Under Hindustan Zinc‘s rural livelihood program, the Sakhi initiative has empowered over 26,800 women through grassroots institutions like federations, village organizations, self-help groups, and MSMEs. Additionally, 300 Sakhi-led committees and federation managers are enhancing community institutions through monitoring, livelihood promotion, and awareness-building, thereby promoting grassroots leadership. The micro-enterprise program has grown from five sewing units in 2018-19, involving 81 women and 86 products, to 14 production units today, now including over 400 women and more than 300 products in food and textile categories, generating a revenue of ₹2.60 crore in FY26. The brand has also launched its own e-commerce platform, Hearts with Fingers, leveraging its presence on major marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, and ONDC to reach more customers.
The Sakhi project has gained national recognition, winning four major awards, including the prestigious Business World and Skotch awards for excellence in women’s empowerment. It has also increased its visibility through platforms like IITF and the Jaipur Literature Festival, and launched its textile collection under the Upaya initiative. Notably, Sakhi women participated for the first time in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda Festival, where their products received an enthusiastic response.
With the growing consumer preference for quick commerce, the arrival of Daichi products on Modern Bazaar and Blinkit is a strategic move. This marks a significant step towards mainstream retail, opening new avenues for women-led businesses and strengthening their market engagement. Following its launch in Delhi-NCR, the initiative aims to expand into other markets as well.
Hindustan Zinc is committed to advancing its vision of community development through various social initiatives and community development programs. These efforts promote education, impart skills, provide employment opportunities, empower women, strengthen healthcare services, and safeguard the environment, positively impacting the lives of over 2.3 million people in more than 2,300 villages. The company is fully dedicated to fostering inclusive development and long-lasting social impact.
