Bhopal, April 24 The intense summer heat continues to grip Madhya Pradesh, with several regions reeling under extreme temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for 21 districts, including Gwalior, as the mercury crosses 44°C in Ratlam. A slight respite is forecast over the next 2–3 days in some areas through light showers, particularly in the southeastern districts.

Ratlam Records Highest Temperature at 44.2°C
Wednesday witnessed scorching temperatures across Malwa-Nimar and other zones. Ratlam topped the heat chart at 44.2°C, followed by Narmadapuram and Khajuraho-Mandla at 43.2°C. Seoni, Narsinghpur, Tikamgarh, Shivpuri, Rewa, and Malajkhand recorded temperatures over 42°C, while many other cities such as Ujjain, Gwalior, Indore, and Bhopal hovered around or above the 41°C mark.
21 Districts on Heatwave Alert Today
According to the IMD, Thursday, April 24, is likely to be extremely hot in parts of Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Sagar divisions. A heatwave alert has been specifically issued for the following 21 districts:

Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Narmadapuram, Betul, Pandhurna, Chhindwara, Balaghat, Umaria, Satna, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari

Light Showers Forecast from April 26
Relief is in sight as weather changes are predicted from April 26 onwards. IMD suggests light rain and thunderstorms in Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat districts. These pre-monsoon activities may help lower temperatures in eastern and southern parts of the state.
Until then, residents are advised to avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and take precautions to guard against heat-related illnesses.
