Gill, Sudharsan Shine with Fifties as Gujarat Consolidates Top Spot
WASHINGTON, April 22 — In the 39th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans outclassed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 39 runs, securing their sixth win of the season and strengthening their position at the top of the points table.

Batting first, Gujarat posted an imposing 198/3 in 20 overs, powered by fluent half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. In reply, KKR managed only 159/8, falling short despite a fighting fifty from Ajinkya Rahane.
Gujarat’s Commanding Batting Display
Gujarat openers Gill and Sudharsan provided a rock-solid start, stitching together a 114-run opening partnership. Sudharsan struck his fifth half-century of the season, scoring 52 off 36 deliveries, laced with six fours and a six. Gill, in sublime form, missed out on a century, scoring 90 runs off 55 balls, including 10 boundaries and three sixes — his third fifty of the season.
After Sudharsan’s dismissal, Jos Buttler added firepower with a quick 41 off 23 balls, while Shahrukh Khan chipped in with a late cameo of 11 off 5 balls, pushing Gujarat to a near-200 total.
For KKR, Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, and Andre Russell took one wicket each but couldn’t halt Gujarat’s momentum.
KKR’s Chase Falls Short Despite Rahane’s Efforts
Chasing 199, KKR had a shaky start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz dismissed early. Ajinkya Rahane tried to steady the innings with a gritty 50 off 36 balls, and Sunil Narine added 17 runs before departing.
However, lack of partnerships and consistent wickets hindered KKR’s chase. Andre Russell (21), Rinku Singh (17), Venkatesh Iyer (14), and Ramandeep Singh (1) failed to convert starts. Impact Player Angkrish Raghuvanshi remained unbeaten on 27, with Harshit Rana alongside him (1*), but the target was too far.
Gujarat Bowlers Seal the Deal
Gujarat’s bowling was sharp and disciplined. Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan led the attack with two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, and Sai Kishore chipped in with one wicket apiece.
This win reinforces Gujarat Titans’ dominance in the 2025 IPL season, showcasing their strong batting depth and balanced bowling attack.
