Second Delay for Ola’s First Electric Motorcycle Amid Regulatory Attention and High Demand
Bengaluru, May 5 Ola Electric has once again postponed the delivery timeline of its highly anticipated Roadster X electric motorcycle, pushing the start date to later this month. Initially announced for a March 2025 rollout, the brand had already revised the schedule to April, and now May marks the third projected timeline for deliveries to begin.
The Roadster X, Ola’s maiden electric motorcycle, was revealed alongside the Roadster and Roadster Pro variants last year. It remains unclear whether the delays will impact the delivery schedule of the other two models as well.

Homologation Delays and Regulatory Spotlight Behind Setbacks
Though Ola Electric has not provided a detailed reason for the latest delay, industry reports suggest that incomplete homologation procedures may have contributed to the initial setbacks. On April 11, 2025, the company stated that the first batch had rolled out from its manufacturing facility. However, actual customer deliveries are still pending.
Adding to the pressure, Ola Electric included 1,395 bookings of the Roadster X in its February sales report despite deliveries not having commenced. This raised eyebrows at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which is reportedly reviewing potential irregularities, including alleged insider trading and related-party transactions.
Ola Electric has issued a firm rebuttal, stating:
“The reports in question are factually inaccurate. The mentioned individual is an employee of Ola Electric Technologies Pvt. Ltd., and the referenced transactions are routine ESOP-related share dealings, not open market trades.”
Roadster X: Specs, Range and Pricing
Despite delivery delays, customer interest remains high due to the Roadster X’s competitive pricing and feature set. It is one of the most affordable electric motorcycles in India, with prices starting at ₹74,999 (ex-showroom).
The Roadster X will be available in three variants, each powered by the same 7 kW (9.3 bhp) mid-drive electric motor:
| Variant | Battery Size | Claimed Range |
|---|---|---|
| Base | 2.5 kWh | 140 km |
| Mid | 3.5 kWh | 196 km |
| Top | 4.5 kWh | 252 km |
Ola dealerships have already received display models, and with the homologation reportedly completed, deliveries are expected to begin within May 2025.
