Bhopal, April 8, 2025 Madhya Pradesh is reeling under an intense heatwave as temperatures in several parts of the state cross the 44°C mark, a phenomenon not commonly seen in April. The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for eight districts, warning of continued extreme weather conditions driven by hot winds from Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Heatwave Intensifies Across MP
Cities like Narmadapuram and Ratlam recorded the highest temperatures on Monday, with Narmadapuram hitting 44.3°C and Ratlam closely following at 44°C. This marks the hottest day of the season across the state. Other major cities including Bhopal (41.6°C), Indore (40.6°C), Gwalior (41.7°C), Ujjain (42°C), and Jabalpur (40.7°C) also saw temperatures soar past 40°C for the first time this year.

The IMD has issued heatwave alerts for the following districts:

Along with daytime highs, night temperatures have also increased, adding to public discomfort. Cities such as Indore, Ujjain, and Dhar have recorded warmer-than-usual nights, while regions like Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Shivpuri, Guna, Neemuch, and Mandsaur continue to remain under heatwave conditions.
Western Disturbance May Bring Relief
According to meteorologists, a Western Disturbance is expected to impact Madhya Pradesh around April 11, which may bring light rainfall to several parts of the state. However, until then, citizens will continue to face intensifying heat with temperatures projected to remain high on April 9 and 10.
The IMD has urged residents, especially those in the high-risk zones, to stay indoors during peak hours, remain hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun.
