Moradabad, January 16 : The chilling cold wave in Uttar Pradesh has claimed the lives of two elderly members of the same family in the Kundarki area of Moradabad district. Within a span of just 24 hours, a devar (brother-in-law) and bhabhi (sister-in-law) succumbed to the cold, leaving the entire neighborhood of Mohalla Nurulla in mourning.
The tragedy struck the family of Sunehari Lal, a Nagar Panchayat employee. On Wednesday afternoon, his elderly aunt, Nekwati (65), passed away around 12 PM. Her funeral rites were performed the same evening. However, the family was still reeling from this loss when, on Thursday morning at 11 AM, Sunehari Lal’s father, Ramgulam Diwakar (68), also passed away. His final rites were conducted on Thursday afternoon.

A Community in Grief
The back-to-back deaths have plunged the Mohalla Nurulla community into sorrow. Friends, relatives, and neighbors gathered to console the grieving family.
Cold Wave Aggravated Health Issues
According to Sunehari Lal, both Nekwati and Ramgulam Diwakar were already unwell, but the intense cold exacerbated their conditions, leading to their untimely demise. The chilling weather in the region has made life particularly difficult for the elderly and those with pre-existing health issues.
Condolences from Officials and Community Leaders
The Nagar Panchayat Chairman, Zeenat Mehndi, her husband and former chairman, Mehndi Hasan, Executive Officer Arvind Kumar, councilor Rafiq Saifi, and community leaders including Mohammad Yusuf (Kallu Pradhan) expressed their condolences to Sunehari Lal and his family.
