New Delhi, April 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to all its Members of Parliament (MPs) in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the upcoming parliamentary session. The party has mandated that all MPs must be present in the house from April 16 to 18, with no leave permitted during this period. This directive is specifically aimed at facilitating crucial legislative work related to the ‘Women’s Empowerment Bill.’
Previously, a draft bill concerning amendments to this act was approved in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has extended the budget session to convene a special session of Parliament from April 16 to 18, during which discussions and the passage of this bill will take place.
Prime Minister Modi has also reached out to floor leaders of all parties, urging them to support this bill. In his letter, he emphasized that the time has come for the effective implementation of the ‘Women’s Empowerment Bill’ across the nation, ensuring equal opportunities for women in political representation.
According to the government, once approved by Parliament, this law will come into effect on March 31, 2029, marking its impact in the subsequent Lok Sabha elections. This act is viewed as a historic step towards enhancing women’s political participation.
Political activities surrounding the special session have intensified, with strategic meetings occurring among all parties. A comprehensive debate on this bill is anticipated in the coming days, capturing the attention of the entire nation.
