Mumbai, May 3: Tata Motors has kicked off the new financial year on a high note, achieving remarkable sales figures. In April 2026, the company sold a total of 59,701 cars, marking an impressive annual growth of 31.12%. This is a significant increase from the 45,532 units sold in April 2025. With this surge in sales, Tata Motors has surpassed Mahindra and Hyundai, becoming the second-largest car seller in India after Maruti Suzuki. Popular models contributing to this success include the Tata Nexon, Punch, and Safari.
The domestic market has played a crucial role in Tata’s success, with passenger vehicle sales reaching 59,000 units last month, compared to 45,199 units in the same month last year. This reflects a staggering rise of over 30% in demand for Tata vehicles in the local market. Additionally, Tata Motors is strengthening its position in exports, achieving a 110.5% increase by exporting 701 units compared to 333 units a year ago.
In the electric vehicle segment, Tata Motors continues to lead, with a record 72.1% increase in EV sales, totaling 9,150 units in April 2026, up from 5,318 units in April 2025. The popularity of models like the Tata Tiago EV and Nexon EV is driving this growth as consumers increasingly shift towards electric vehicles due to rising fuel prices.
Looking ahead, Tata Motors is focused on expanding its electric portfolio and enhancing customer service. The company’s commitment to safety, with many of its vehicles boasting a ‘5-star’ safety rating, has significantly boosted consumer confidence. Experts believe that Tata’s upcoming upgraded SUVs will further accelerate its growth trajectory.
