Udaipur, April 21: The historic city of Udaipur is set to celebrate its rich cultural heritage with the sixth edition of the International Classical Dance and Music Festival. This year, seven distinguished artists will be honored with the prestigious ‘Tambavati Nagari Award,’ named after Udaipur’s ancient identity. The festival will be inaugurated by former royal family member, Nivritti Kumari Mewar.
Organized by the Kathak Ashram in collaboration with the All India Dancers Association (IDA), this two-day event will showcase renowned talents from across the nation.
Artists to Receive the Tambavati Award
The award recipients include Bharatanatyam dancer Amrit Sinha from Lucknow, Kathak dancer Sharanya Bisht from Delhi, Rajashree Das from Bengaluru, Richa Gupta from Delhi, Srishti Bhasin from Jabalpur, Shilpa Singh, Odissi dancer Sumi Ajay from Bilaspur, and Bharatanatyam dancer Vinay Tiwari from Delhi.
Chandrapal Singh Chouhan, secretary of Kathak Ashram, announced that Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot have been specially invited to the festival, which will take place on April 26 and 27 at the Atal Sabhagar in Hiran Magri Sector 4.
Chandrakala Chaudhary from Kathak Ashram and Ritesh Babu, director of IDA, shared that around 600 participants from various states in India, as well as from Dubai, Malaysia, and Thailand, will take part in the festival. On the first day, April 26, performances will feature Vinay Tiwari, Sharanya Bisht, Srishti Bhasin, and Richa Gupta, along with a presentation of ‘Shiv Vandana’ by Priyanshi and group from Kathak Ashram, and a performance by Kopal Sharma.
On the second day, April 27, Ritesh Babu, Sumi Ajay, Shilpa Singh, Amrit Sinha, and Rajashree Das will take the stage. Additionally, a special presentation of folk dance by Sejal and group, as well as Kalbelia dance by Nikunj Shekhar and Adhishree Singh from Falna, will be featured.
The festival will also highlight performances of ‘Upakathak’ depicting Krishna Leela by a prestigious group from Delhi, Shiva Tandav by a group from Raipur, and traditional Kathakali from Kerala. Dance competitions will be held during the day, while the evening will showcase an international ‘Dance Festival’ featuring global artists. The organizers are diligently preparing for this grand event to give classical arts a renewed global identity.
